| Meet
the Maker
Hi I am Graeme Martin and I build Sexsmith Guitars.
I was born in Australia and there I lived until
I was 22 when I left for Canada with a friend
to ski., during my 1 1⁄2 year stay I meet
my girlfriend Trish. We returned to Australia
and planned to settle there, however immigration
had different ideas. So we headed back to Canada
after around two years, with the intention of
staying for only 3 months or so, that has since
turned into nearly 4 years.
It was just before leaving Australia that I decided
to build my first acoustic. I had played guitar
since I was 12 and was at a stage where I was
really into acoustic music, so I started learning
what makes a good guitar with the intention of
being a buyer. Learning about acoustic guitars
and their construction gave me the idea to build
one myself, being that I'm pretty handy with the
tools, so after much research I gave it a go.
6 months and 2 continents later it was finished.
It was some time during or just after that I decided
I would like to build more, but of my own design.
So I began the long and tedious process that provided
me with my first fastback and shortly after I
also designed and built the Fatboy. I also have
plans to develop and build a larger body version
of the Fastback.
You may be wondering where the name comes from,
as you know the name Martin, is already being
used in the guitar world, so I went back a generation
and took my Grandmothers family name.
In my spare time I play guitar in a local band,
